ILIGAN CITY – With the recently completed Iligan River Esplanade, a project conceived and initiated by Iligan City Representative Frederick W. Siao, Barangay Santiago will surely be a tourism spot according to its Chairperson Felipe Villaver.

“Sigurado ko, mahimo na gyud kitang tourist spot, pinaagi diha sa Paseo (de Santiago) ug karon, wala pa gani nahuman ang coastal road, daghan na kaayo’g manuroy didto,” Villaver said.

(I’m sure, we [the barangay] will become a tourist spot, because of Paseo [de Santiago], and now, even if the coastal road is not yet completed, plenty of people have been going there.)

He said that this project will create an impact especially on the economy, adding that vendors had already been inquiring about a spot for their businesses even before the opening of the said project.

He is also planning to meet with the vendors to discuss solid waste management to keep the area clean and safe.

He thanked Congressman Siao for the said project and for the services the office of the Congressman offered to those who are in need.

“Ipaabot ang among kinasing-kasing nga pasalamat nga naa ka (Congressman Siao). Wala nimo pasagdi ang Barangay Santiago. Wala nimo pasagdi ang kinatibuk-ang barangay sa Iligan City. Imo gyud gihatag ang imong best para mapakita kanila nga ‘this is where your taxes go’,” he said.

(My heartfelt gratitude that you (Congressman Siao) are there. You did not neglect Barangay Santiago. You did not neglect the barangays of Iligan City. You gave your best to let them see that ‘this is where your taxes go’.)

The Iligan River Esplanade project, situated in Barangay Santiago, started out only as a river control system for the Mandulog River. Congressman Siao, however, suggested to make it an Esplanade, a long and open leisure and entertainment area for the people of Iligan.
