ILIGAN CITY – Iligan City Representative Frederick W. Siao has filed House Bill 9593 that seeks to appropriate 800 million pesos for the construction of the Iligan International Convention Center in Sitio Timoga, Barangay Buru-un, Iligan City.

The said convention center will be constructed on the land donated by the Macapagal-Macaraeg family in September 1993 and has been left unused for 28 years.

The proposed convention center will host events like conferences, conventions, seminars and competitions that will attract more people to go to Iligan City.

Siao said that as more people come to Iligan City, there will be more businesses like restaurants, cafes, hotels, and other establishments that can accommodate potential customers.

It will also entice more investors to start new businesses, generating more jobs for Iliganons and boosting the economy of the city.

He added that this would also provide space for the entertainment industry in the city. Local artists would have more opportunities to showcase their talents, entertaining guests during conventions. The convention center could also host concerts, recitals, and other big cultural events.

Aside from tourism, economy, and entertainment, Siao said that this project will become a source of cultural pride for Iliganons for having a world-class international convention center.

HB 9593 will be co-authored by Pampanga 2nd District Representative Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo, daughter of the former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Siao also earlier filed House Bill No. 7530 or “An Act Declaring Iligan City a Tourism Development Area,” that seeks to include the city in the government’s national tourism plan for the development of its tourism attractions.
