ILIGAN CITY – The Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) conducted a Training Induction Program for 150 new scholars under the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) on Aug. 31 at the BFF Gymnasium, Brgy. Luinab, this city.

Among the 150 scholars, fifteen (15) will be training for Raise Dairy Animals Leading to Animal Production (Ruminants) NCII at Margeuries House of Goodies, twenty-one (21) scholars for Raise Organic Small Ruminants (Leading to Organic Agriculture Production NCII) at Balay sa Hardin, twenty (20) scholars for Plant Crops (Leading to Agricultural Crops Production) at JAVS Skills Training Center Inc., twenty (20) scholars for Service Motorcycle/Small Engine Systems at TESDA-Regional Training Center, thirty (30) scholars for Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NCI at Iligan Access Institute of Technology Inc. (I-Access), thirty (30) scholars for Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NCI at Iligan City National School of Fisheries, and fourteen (14) scholars for Dressmaking NCII at St. Laurence Institute of Technology.

The activity aimed to inform the scholars about STEP and its requirements, the responsibilities of the scholars, and the benefits they would get from the program.

Iligan City Representative Frederick W. Siao attended the program to personally congratulate the scholars for their acceptance and to thank the service providers who would handle their training.

Siao encouraged the scholars not to take for granted the opportunity to have free training under the STEP Program. He also emphasized the importance of acquired skills for better employment opportunities.

“If you have skills like these, I’m sure you will have more, better opportunities coming at you,” he said.

The scholars will receive a 500-peso internet allowance and a 500-peso health allowance during the training, and training allowances and toolkits after the training.

Every year, Siao allocates a portion of his congressional budget to TESDA to ensure that slots are available for Iliganons under its programs.
